Dear members and friends of St. Peter's Anglican Church,

The peace of the Lord , be always with you.

"THE LORD, OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS."

In Jeremiah 33:14-16 we read:

14 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will perform that good thing which

I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah.

15 In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness

to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land.

16 In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely:

and this is the name wherewith she shall be called,

'The Lord our righteousness.'

How does God become our righteousness ?

Righteousness means: " making right with God.

How does God make us right with him?

God makes us right with himself through the death of Christ.

Romans 3:21-26 says:

(Righteousness Through Faith).

21" But now apart from the law the righteousness of God

has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.

22 This righteousness is given through faith in[a] Jesus Christ to all who believe.

There is no difference between Jew and Gentile,

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption

that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice

of atonement,[b] through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith.

He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because

in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—

26 he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time,

so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus."

God made us right with himself through the death of Christ to show that he is righteous.

How do you destroy your enemy?

You destroy your enemy by making him or her your friend.

God destroyed the enmity in us by the death of Jesus and thus made us his friends through our faith in Christ.

"What a friend we have in Jesus?"

May God help us to make friends with our enemies through faith in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Fr. James.
